The Office of Residential Life provides important opportunities for students to live and learn together through the creation of intentional and inclusive communities. The office works closely with 300+ studentleaders to identify campus needs, build strong and cohesive communities and develop relevant and timely student-centered programming. This work results in residential communities where all Bowdoin students are encouraged, both directly and indirectly, to engage actively in their academic and co-curricular experiencesand to take responsibility for themselves, for others, and for the community at large. First year buildings, College Houses and upperclass residence halls provide opportunities for students to grow through constant contact with new experiences and different ways of viewing the world. These residential communities promote the intellectual and personal growth of individuals and encourage mutual understanding and respect.
The Associate Director of Residential Life will lead the selection, supervision, training and leadership development of the 78 residential life student staff as wellas work with the student staff to resolve roommate and other conflicts that arise in the residence halls. In collaboration with student staff, this position will coordinate with campus partners across the division to support students who are facing challenges including mental health issues, bias, gender violence, substance use issues, homesickness, academic struggles, and other difficulties associated with transitioning to college life. This position calls for an understanding of theresidential undergraduate experience, a proven ability to design, implement andassess topical and developmentally appropriate student leadership programs, sound judgment, outstanding communication skills, the ability to balance multiple priorities, and a willingness to work both independently and in collaboration with others.
The Associate Director of Residential Life will supervise and partner with the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to support the vibrant community that is theCollege Houses. Approximately 200 students live in Bowdoin's College Houses.This unique living opportunity provides the opportunity for students to be activeparticipants in creating the campus culture that they want to be a part of. An intensive selection process, comprehensive training, budgetary responsibilities and the opportunity to program collaboratively with faculty, staff and students make the College Houses a space where many students on campus want to liveand learn.
Finally, this position will be responsible for contributing to the office goals of creating inclusive communities in all residential spaces, identifying and meeting Bowdoin community needs through student-initiated programs and creating curriculum that develops highly effective teams among residential life student staff and College House officers and members.
Salary range for this position is expected to be: Minimum $65,000 – Maximum $75,000
Education/Skills Requirements
8:30 am to 5:00 pm Monday through Friday with evening and weekend work required during the academic year. Participate in the Student Affairs on-call rotation and respond to emergency and crisis situations as necessary.

- Master's in education or other related field required.
- Applicants must have at least five years of professional experience and must possess excellent communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills, sound judgment, and the ability to set and balance multiple priorities.
- The ideal candidate will demonstrate a strong interest in educational, co-curricular and extra-curricular programming and will have the ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- The ability to thrive in a dynamic student-centered environment is key.
- Experience building inclusive communities, supporting student-centered programming and developing leadership skills among a diverse body of students is an important part of this position.
- Previous residential life or other experience developing and supporting student- centered and initiated programming is preferred.
- The successful candidate will work well with students, faculty, parents and other members of the campus community, and have a demonstrated ability to complete projects both independently and in collaboration with a team.
- Experience effectively communicating, and facilitating communication, across difference.
- Experience designing innovative student leadership training and co-curricular/extracurricular programs are a strong plus
