Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian

Cornell University Library (CUL) seeks an Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian. We are looking for someone proactive and dedicated to helping teachers and learners, who has a curiosity about STEM-related disciplines, and a commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and belonging. The Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian will integrate information and other literacies into the College of Engineering and College of Computing and Information Science curriculum through various teaching and learning activities and assess student learning. They will also provide research and reference services and scholarly communication support, often in partnership with other Cornell University Library units and departments. This position will work as part of a team to deliver innovative and iterative support for entrepreneurship initiatives across the Ithaca campus and provide library services to our New York City campus. As a Research, Teaching, and Extension (RTE) faculty member, the Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian will engage in service, scholarship, and ongoing professional development to meet the requirements of promotion and reappointment at Cornell University Library.

This position is in Ithaca, New York. The selected candidate will typically work on the Ithaca campus 4 days per week, with the potential for entering a flexible work arrangement to allow remote work 1 day per week. The university reserves the right to modify, suspend, revoke, or terminate the hybrid work arrangement at any time.

The anticipated academic rank for this position is Senior Associate Librarian, with an anticipated salary range of $67,000-$73,000, dependent on experience and qualifications.

Background: This position will be in the Engineering Library, which is located within the College of Engineering. It plays a pivotal role in supporting the research, teaching, and learning needs of those in the College of Engineering and College of Computing and Information Science. You will also address the library needs of students, faculty, and staff at the Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island in New York City; regular travel to this campus is required for this position. As the Engineering Research and Instruction Librarian, you will also be part of the Business, Engineering, and Entrepreneurship team composed of dedicated business, engineering, and technology professionals who are passionate about teaching, data, scholarly communication, entrepreneurship, career support, and more. Furthermore, you will have the exciting opportunity to collaborate and learn from colleagues across other unit libraries in the Cornell University Library system.

Candidate Profile:

• A master's degree in library and/or information science from an ALA-accredited institution or an advanced degree in a related discipline.
• Two to five years of relevant professional experience focused on public services in a library setting.
• Demonstrated interest and/or background in engineering, computer science, information science, and/or other STEM-related disciplines.
• Demonstrated ability to continuously learn new skills, technologies, and methods and to apply those to your work.
• Proven ability to effectively foster positive work relationships and to collaborate in a team environment. You have experience building community and connection.
• Evidence of excellent organizational and written/oral communication skills.
• A commitment to fostering diversity, inclusion, and belonging in the organization where you work and in the communities that you engage.

Additionally, we would prefer any of the following:

• Experience providing research and teaching and learning services in an academic or research library.
• Knowledge of instructional design, teaching practices, and/or assessment principles that create effective and user-centered learning environments.
• Working knowledge of scholarly communication, data management, and other research-related services.
