Position Purpose
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Archivist for Collections, processes new accessions and reprocesses existing collections in all formats to appropriate levels for improved access to archival and manuscript materials. Works within existing systems to input descriptions and other metadata for born digital and digitized collections and assists with the ingest of digital collections.

Bachelors or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
· Strong organizational skills.
· Experience with or ability to learn database applications.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills.
· Ability to work discreetly with sensitive or confidential materials.
· Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience working with rare or fragile materials.
· Two years library experience

Description
In consultation with the Assistant Archivist for Collections, performs background research using standard bibliographic materials as well as primary sources to identify biographical information on individuals or historical information of relevance to the collections. In consultation with the supervising archivist identify the intellectual order of materials, establish physical and/or digital order of materials within collections, and arrange materials for long-term storage and use within physical and digital repositories. Prepares intellectual description of archival and manuscript materials for review by supervising archivist.

Hires and trains, student workers on processing procedures and supervises their work on processing projects.

Provides reference service in the Special Collections reading room on a regular basis to a diverse community of users, with primary focus on the research and instructional needs of the Dartmouth community.
