Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Employee Relations, the Employee Relations Manager role is essential in overseeing a variety of employee relations activities throughout the college. They must remain vigilant in monitoring and adapting to current HR trends and changes, particularly those related to employee relations, including employment laws and regulations. The manager ensures that our workplace practices consistently meet or exceed legal requirements, aligning closely with College policies and procedures. Additionally, they foster a collaborative team environment focused on delivering high-quality service to internal customers and College stakeholders.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • In coordination with HR Leadership develops, communicates and maintains fair employment policies, practices, and processes in alignment with all legal and regulatory requirements and in support of Tarrant County College (TCC's) goals, principles, and policies
  • Conducts prompt, thorough, neutral, and defensible workplace investigations into allegations of misconduct, such as harassment, (including sexual harassment), discrimination, retaliation, insubordination, workplace violence, substance abuse, and violations of College policy or procedure; conducts high-level workplace investigations on short time frames ranging from simple to complex issues and escalating significant issues to HR Leadership
  • Counsels and provides training to TCC customers on employee relations issues while considering sensitivity, complexity, urgency, company policies, and local, state & federal laws while protecting sensitive information
  • Utilizes influencing skills with customers to reach win/win outcomes that minimize risk to the College
  • Analyzes observed patterns in employee concerns and proposes solutions to HR Leadership
  • Monitors employee-related incidents in the applicable systems and maintains timely logs
  • Supports a one team HR mindset by using a customer-focused approach to deliver HR solutions through effective partnerships across the HR departments, and other supporting functions as necessary
  • Reviews, updates, and communicates College policies as needed to reflect changing policies and laws
  • Builds trust and rapport with all levels of faculty and staff to become a trusted HR asset throughout the District
General Supervision and Management
  • Responsible for personnel management, evaluation, and development of direct reports
  • Utilizes coaching and leadership strategy to supervise team members
Service Excellence
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through Tarrant County College (TCC)
  • Supports the mission, values, goals, and principles of the College
Supervision

Works under the general supervision of the Director of Employee Relations

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Management, or a related administrative field
  • Five (5) years of directly-related HR and employee relations experience, including Title VII, ADA, and EEOC
  • Two (2) years' experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Human Resources or related field
  • At least two years' working experience in Human Resources Employee Relations
  • At least two years' working experience as a supervisor in Employee Relations
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of state and federal laws concerning labor relations
  • Knowledge of Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), Americans with Disability Act (ADA), and Title VII
  • Knowledge of the dispute resolution process and best practices to document the investigative process, findings, and recommendations
  • Skilled using computerized applications and enterprise systems, including word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
  • Ability to communicate in writing and verbally, to inform, persuade, influence, and recognize employees and managers at various levels of the organization
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies
  • Ability to remain tactful, calm, and persuasive in controversial or confrontational situations
  • Ability to handle highly confidential and sensitive information
  • Ability to think critically to effectively solve and communicate problems in a fast-paced environment where the demands for work are varied, and unpredictable in scope and volume
  • Ability to travel on a limited basis throughout the College and work flexible hours
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, the employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.
