Summary

The Department of Psychology in the VCU College of Humanities and Sciences welcomes applicants to the position of Building Manager. Reporting to the department chair, this position is critical to the daily management of the Psychology department, which operates out 15+ buildings and around 49K sq. ft. across both the Monroe Park and VCU Health campuses. This position is integral to the success of the department's many teaching and research endeavors, and ensures building-related customer service needs are met for the large size of the unit.

Job-Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Duties for the Building Manager position will put the successful candidate in daily in-person communication with a diverse mix of staff, faculty, and students involved in different areas of research, teaching, and administration. The successful candidate will understand the importance of excellent customer service and collegiality, and will handle all interactions with this in mind.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
•Daily building management and maintenance coordination, both preventative and in response to specific situations, or emergencies.
•Coordinate with the Department Chair on strategic use of departmental spaces.
•Building access and key control management
•In coordination with VCU Facilities and/or University Renovations, management of office/lab moves, surplus removal, and office/lab renovations
•In coordination with Technology Services and the department HR Coordinator, help with acquisition and setup of telecommunications and computers for onboarding staff and faculty.
•Completion of annual space surveys.
•Fixed asset custodian, responsible for the custody and proper use of all equipment that is assigned to the department.
•Emergency evacuation contact and coordinator responsible for planning updates with assistance from Safety and Risk Management

The Building Manager is expected to be on-site daily for frequent building inspections, projects, meetings, and potentially after-hours for emergency situations, as needed.

Required Qualifications:
•High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent with work experience.
•Excellent customer service skills.
•Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or a commitment to do so as a staff member at VCU.
•Ability to work independently and diplomatically with both internal and external customers and vendors in a diverse academic environment.
•Excellent oral and written communication in daily interactions.
•Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to meet deadlines.
•Extensive knowledge of facility maintenance and construction and/or renovation processes, preferably in State or other government situations.
•Ability to interpret documents and communicate compliance issues.
•Previous experience managing a budget, strong math background, and knowledge of general business practices.

Preferred Qualifications:
•Bachelor's degree or equivalent training and/or significant work experience.
•Experience with ADA building standards, or building management with accessibility in mind.
•Previous experience working in an academic setting.
•Several years of previous building facilities management experience.
