This important role will broadly support the Virginia Housing Audit team in the execution of the department's audit plan to review processes and controls across operational, information technology, compliance, financial, and other risk areas. The Internal Auditor will assist in determination of internal audit scope, perform audit procedures and document the results of the work performed, and assist with reporting and other audit needs as requested. Work will be performed under the supervision of Audit management and senior internal auditors.

The Internal Auditor will assist in determination of internal audit scope, perform audit procedures and document the results of the work performed, and assist with reporting and other audit needs as requested. Work will be performed under the supervision of Audit management and senior internal auditors.
Responsibilities will include:
- Assist in audit planning, participate in planning meetings, follow audit program to execute testing, document results.
- Communicate exceptions and progress of audits to the supervising auditor or manager, assist in preparing audit report and presenting recommendations to management.
- Participate in ad hoc or special projects in support Virginia Housing priorities and initiatives, or agreed upon procedures for external auditors, upon request.
- Build audit and industry expertise through research, training, conferences and professional certification.
- Support department process improvement initiatives.
Qualified candidates must possess:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Information Systems, Finance, Business / Economics, or equivalent work experience.
- 2+ years of work experience in internal / external audit, internal controls, compliance and / or information technology, preferred.
- Knowledge of best practice audit techniques, auditing standards and requirements set out by the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA) or the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA).
- Active listening skills and positive team attitude to foster a diverse, equitable and inclusive team environment.
- Critical thinker who provides innovative suggestions to approach tasks, reasons logically, effectively analyzes and evaluates available data to draw appropriate conclusions.
- Proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Auditing Standards (GAAS) and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), primary business cycles and internal control, preferred.
Preferred experience includes:
- Certified Internal Auditor (CIA), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification or eligible candidate.
- Knowledge of general information security and automated controls.
